Lewisham Shopping Centre is more than just a place – this is Lewisham town centre.
We’re proud to have been a part of Lewisham daily life for 50 years, and now we’re investing in its future, delivering a phased redevelopment that will bring new places to shop, eat and meet to the centre of Lewisham, as well as new homes, public spaces and green parks for the community to enjoy too. Over the next ten years, we’ll be rolling out our development plans as we begin to deliver our refreshed shopping centre. And the best part? Lewisham Shopping Centre will be open throughout. Here’s a look at everything we have in store…
Open for business
Lewisham Shopping Centre isn’t closing – in fact, we’re still welcoming lots of exciting new names to the centre all the time! Our phased redevelopment plan will see improvements and updates made section by section over the coming years, and while some parts of the centre may close temporarily while new areas are built, you will always be able to access the stores you love and the services you need.
In recent weeks, we’ve already welcomed exciting new stores and relocated key brands within the shopping centre, including Boots’ move to a larger, better space, alongside the new opening of brands like Tressly and Sports Direct too. And that’s not all! We have lots of exciting plans in the future too, including the return of the iconic Model Market in 2026.
A look at what’s new
Alongside some incredible new brands, our redevelopment plans will introduce plenty of exciting new services and spaces into the community.
As part of these plans, we will be introducing:
- A new public park above the shopping centre
- New streets and public squares
- More places to eat and drink
- A permanent home for Model Market
- A new not-for-profit music venue
- New homes for rent, including affordable homes
The plans also include more investment into Lewisham Market, with Lewisham Council investing £24 million to improve the market and the surrounding streets. The market is a much-loved part of the town centre and will remain a central part of Lewisham life throughout the redevelopment plans and beyond. When the works are complete, traders will benefit from more residents living nearby, more visitors to the town centre and better public spaces around the market too.
Shaped by the people of Lewisham
Lewisham Shopping Centre’s redevelopment plans were shaped by the opinions and feedback of the people who will be using the centre the most, with thousands of local people helping to develop the ideas that have informed our redevelopment. Over a years-long consultation process, local residents, traders and visitors all got involved by attending consultation events, visiting our consultation ‘shop’, taking part in workshops and sharing feedback about the plans online. This means that all of our redevelopment plans have been shaped by the people of Lewisham, with the planning application receiving more letters of support than any major Lewisham application in the previous four years combined.
